North Haven: A Private Garden Opening to the Public in 2027
A garden nearly a decade in the making. Discover North Haven, the private family garden of landscape designer Paddy Milne, opening its gates once again as part of Open Gardens Victoria in 2027.
Nestled in Ballarat North, North Haven is more than just a garden. It's a space that has evolved over nearly ten years, combining thoughtful landscape design, beautiful planting and the practical needs of family life.
Designed and created by Paddy Milne, founder of The Scape Artist, North Haven offers visitors a rare opportunity to explore the personal garden of a landscape designer and see how a carefully considered outdoor space can grow and change over time.
A Garden Designed for Living
From the moment you enter through the stone pillars and bespoke Oregon timber gate, North Haven offers a sense of privacy and tranquillity.
The north-facing courtyard features lush, layered planting, a built-in daybed and a wood-fired pizza oven, creating a welcoming space for entertaining and relaxing.
At the rear of the property, a raised semi-circular lawn provides an open area for family activities. Custom steel detailing defines the lawn's edge, while surrounding garden beds feature ornamental grasses, perennials, shrubs and seasonal colour.
Every element has been considered to create a balance between structure, function and natural beauty.
Nearly a Decade of Growth
One of the most rewarding aspects of North Haven is seeing how the garden has matured over time.
What began as a landscape design project has developed into a thriving family garden, with established planting, evolving garden beds and a developing tree canopy.
For Paddy and The Scape Artist team, North Haven reflects an approach to landscape design that goes beyond the initial installation. It's about creating outdoor spaces that continue to evolve, offering something new with every season.
